Dear Friends:
We know many of you enjoy traveling along with us through our travelog. The above picture was taken from our travels last summer to Italy on our honeymoon (in front of Capri). With modern technology we have learned that it is easier to post our logs on this website and let you visit as you wish without having your e-mail crowded. Let us know your comments by posting them or e-mail us to let us know you are indeed reading!
We are about to embark on a trip to Spain on May 8th. Our itinerary is as follows:
May 9 Arrive in Madrid
May 10 to Cordoba
May 12 to Granada
May 14 to Seville
May 16 to Toledo
May 18 to Madrid for the International Women's Forum
May 21 to Barcelona
May 23 home.
We will post our travel log here on a regular basis during our travels so check in during the travels or after! We will have a link to other logs, like the one posted on a Turkish website of our log from 2004.
We look forward to your comments and updates as well.
best wishes, Leslie

Well my dears,
Your travels once again are my magic carpet...and for that I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Have just returned from a meeting in the Southern US .. headquartered in Beaufort, SC, but as one of the venues there was a session in Savannah, GA, and another in Charleston, SC.
Grits, grits, and mo' grits..and yet...for some reason, they were good grits. Just ask both my thighs, which now need a bit of work, thanks to the Southern fried everything. Oh, and by the way, Fried Green Tomatoes (as done the way they're supposed to be done) are wonderful, unfortunately.
Your friends in Spain are elegant and beautiful of course, and as usual, you're hitting only the most perfect places. Leslie, that's one fine photo of you, wrapped in your shawl, sitting in that chair. If Jack was the photographer, he's got the gift for portraiture.
If you happen to pass a restaurant called "Buffalo Grill", just be aware that it was built and opened by my French Godson, Nicolas Bigard, who was the head of the Spanish division of the company, which happens to be French.
After Spain, Nico was sent to the US
to supervise the construction and opening of their first US restaurant in Clearwater, FL, but Nico and his wife Delphine are now back in France, and hoping to return to the states, though not to Florida.
And now...it's time to buckle down to the mess which accumulated on my desk during my absence last week.
Much love to you both..
Can't wait for your next Travelog..

Susie
And again...thank you for sharing your journey with me. Not sure if/when I'll get to Spain, so I'm
printing up everything and saving it in a folder.
Leslie, when you get to the Forum meeting, be sure to look for Jean West (tall, white hair...very funny)...she was with us in the South.
Last night was an event sponsored by Jeannie Herberger..You probably saw the invitation. The Forum was invited for a private dinner and cocktails and to hear the rehearsal of ODE TO JOY.
Everything was wonderful, surprisingly, exceedingly wonderful. That young Michael Christie (age 36) is approachable, inclusive, and so
knowledgable. He spoke about
how he'd been turned on to music in the first place.. and it wasn't as a young child. Someone gave him those cd's.."Hooked on Classics."..and that did it.
Claudia and I drove down together..well, actually I picked her up at the Safeway parking lot on Pinnacle Peak at Scottsdale Rd's, but on the way down there I was bombarded by golf ball sized hail stones as the sky turned black and visibility went to zero.
And then..as quickly as it began,
the storm stopped...Fortunately I had taken the big car, not the convertible. The hail sounded like machine gun bullets inside that SUV.
And Leslie, be proud of me...I drove downtown, parked in the Collier Center (missed the main entrance of course and ended up somehow down on Jefferson, but I
got us there, and in plenty of time too. The event was at symphony hall of course..so walked the half a block to the hall feeling rather smug about having navigated that area.
By the way..I liked the way I went..101 to 51 to MacDowell, to
7th St. Opted to stay off the
Highway 10 because of the possibility of a storm..
NO one was on the road..*also thanks to the storm. Only those of us foolish enough to think we can drive through any weather conditions were out on those roads, and by the time I was on 51, there were no more than 10 other cars..at 5:30.
There's a new restaurant you'll maybe want to try with me when you get home..it's in DC Ranch..and it's called SOL Y SOMBRE..All Tapas. Only Spanish wines. Very nice and pleasant.
Billy Nassikas (speak of the disappearing devil) called to invite me to have mother's day with him and Rebecca and her parents.. Had to say no, but told him that when you're back from Spain, the two of them are going to come to dinner with you, no excuses.
Don't know if I told you I met an interesting man on the plane from Atlanta to PHX. An author, a great fan of San Ysidro Ranch , and a great admirer of Jim Lavenson's. We exchanged cards..
he sent me one of his books (*yes, he writes..he's a bit Truman Capote-ish) ..and has invited Nicole Chambers and me up to lunch at Rene's in Tlapaque on Thursday. We're going. It all seems logical and harmless enough.
And that is my report from Scottsdale on May 17th..at 4:30 in the afternoon.
MUCH LOVE,
hasta la vista (babies)
Susie
